Early African-American Churches in Chesterfield County: Weaving History

The African-American Committee of the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia (CHSV) celebrates the history of early African-American churches in Chesterfield County.  Join us for the following events:
Saturday, February 6-April 17, 2010 the County Museum will host an exhibit featuring photos and histories of black churches of Chesterfield.  The County Museum is located at 6813 Mimms Loop, Chesterfield., and is open Tuesday-Friday from 10-4 and Saturday from 10-2.

Saturday, February 13, 11 a.m.  Reverend Doctor Harold E. Braxton, Pastor emeritus of Union Grove Baptist Church will speak on The History of the Black Church at Magnolia Grange plantation home, 10020 Iron Bridge Rd., Chesterfield.  The museum exhibit will be officially opened following this lecture.

Sunday, February 28, 3 pm. A program will be presented on the Influences of Church, Family, and Community in Chesterfield County by Dr. Lauranett Lee, Curator of African-American History at the Virginia Historical Society.  The program will feature a community mass choir under the direction of Paulette Rainey and will be held at First Baptist Church of Midlothian, 13800 Westfield Rd, Midlothian, 23114.

All of these programs are free and open to the public.
