Each 2nd Friday of the month, the shops and galleries remain open late to welcome visitors and the galleries open new art exhibits, with many featuring live music. There are wine tastings, beer tastings, concerts and it is a perfect time to try a new restaurant or discover a shop you have not visited.
There will be music/art/exhibits at Old Towne Studio 7, Walton Gallery, The Ward Center for Contemporary Art, Old Towne Studio 7, the Morena Bohemia Art Gallery, and the Petersburg Area Art League.
There will be music in perhaps ten performing arts venues, and great exhibits at The Ward Center for Contemporary Art, the Petersburg Area Art League, and at the Old Towne Studio 7. A paint party will be staged at The Ward, a Family Fun Night at Old Towne Studio 7, and a public tasting at Trapezium Brewing.
The Art League will open an major retrospective exhibit of work by Nan Jones. . The Ward is continuing a major new and expanded exhibit of recent work in eggshell and paint by Sheila Maitland Holland, entitled Textural Inclusion, as well as new work by Christopher C. Alexander. In addition, The Ward is featuring expanded exhibits by Bonnie Koenig, James Timberlake and Eugene Vango, and continues an exhibit by Freedom Wilson, entitled Just Enough Grace for You. Other continuing exhibits at The Ward include work by Carol Anna Meese entitled Brand New Day, by Bonnie Koenig, and no fewer than ten other gallery exhibits, including work by Rosamond Casey, Bobby English, Jr., Mary Montague Sikes, Clifton Dickens, Dolly Holmes, Mark Pehanich, Aimee Joyaux, Omni Waters, and Terry Ammons, as well as at least twenty resident studio artists. Old Towne Studio 7 will feature a new exhibit of work by artist-in-residence Lisa Mistry. A retrospective exhibit of work by Ken Graves and Joe Miller , as well as books by Dr. John Lynn and Stella McCormack, will be shown at Abigails.
The Ward will present a Paint and Sip event (“Autumn Trail,” $), led by Clifton “Gus” Dickens of I’ll Paint to That, in the Main Gallery, beginning at 6:30. Old Towne Studio 7 will present a Family Fun Night featuring clay used for holiday crafts ($). Trapezium Brewing will have a public tasting in conjunction with Mix It UP Suffolk, featuring a giveaway of pint glasses. And Crystal Spa will have a Friday for the Arts! Mingle.
Chellezs Hunter will be performing at the Library. Matt Via & The Dirty Runaways will still be performing at Old Towne’s Alibi, Way Down South Acoustic at Longstreet’s, Bobby Horne at Abigails, , the Sinatra-style crooner Joe LaLuna at Maria’s, keyboard artist and singer Steve Brooks and powerful singer Shelly Bonet in the Martini Lounge at Wabi Sabi, and One Fell Swoop in the Music Room at Wabi. Ryan Atchison will be playing the guitar at Old Towne Studio 7. Michael Redman will be playing his mellow saxophone at the City Table. Slingshot will be performing at DJ’s Rajun Cajun, and Clan Haggis at Tramonto Ristorante. Iris Schwartz will be playing the soprano recorder at the Art League. Music this month from six to one!
